New Directions Alcohol and Substance Abuse Treatment Program

Category: Substance Abuse Mental Health Programs

New Directions, an out-patient chemical dependency treatment program located in the historic Park Slope section of Brooklyn, has developed an integrated clinical approach to treatment that focuses on the chemically dependent individual and their immediate social environment. This approach helps individuals to recognize and change their maladaptive behavior, to understand life stressors as they affect chemical dependence, and to develop better coping mechanisms. It also impacts on the individual's social support system, promoting more constructive reinforcement of sobriety through a focus on the family and social network. This dual approach serves to encourage and enable the chemically dependent individual to truly seek "new directions" in order to develop a more positive lifestyle. LGBTQ-friendly.

All services provided by New Directions are offered in English and Spanish. Our staff consists of physicians, psychologists, social workers, certified alcohol and substance abuse counselors and creative arts therapists who use a multi-disciplinary approach to meet the needs of each client.

Our services include:
- Criminal Justice Services: The primary goal of the Criminal Justice Services offered at New Directions is to facilitate the re-integration of clients with criminal justice issues into society by changing negative attitudes and behaviors that could lead to re-engagement in criminal activity. We strive to have close working relationships with the NYS Department of Parole and Probation, NYC Criminal Courts, Brooklyn Treatment Courts, and the Department of Juvenile Justice.
As our clients achieve abstinence, they are encouraged to improve social functioning, strengthen family relationships, and seek employment. Our aim is to help our clients take their place as independent and productive members of society, free from the addictons of chemical dependence and criminal behavior.
